Australian Bird Prints ~ Cockatoo Paintings

Australian Bird Prints ~ Watercolour Cockatoo Paintings now available in high quality LE print through Art Images Gallery in South Australia

Great news everyone! You are all familiar with my series of significant major works Ive produced in the last year or so… St Vincents Amazons and Cannonball Tree, Black Cockatoos and Stenocarpus and Sulphur Crested Cockatoos and Silky Oak. These large scale bird paintings range between 75x105cm/30x41inch and 1500x920mm/5x3foot in size and have each been epic undertakings to produce in watercolour… but so very worthwhile. Best of all, these are now available as a pair of Australian bird prints, just for you!

St Vincents Amazons and Cannonball Tree (Amazona guildingii and Couroupita guianensis) has been a prize winner at the South Australian Museum’s Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize and is now on the National Tour. It is currently on exhibition at the National Archives in ACT, and it is also featured on the front cover of the current International Artist Magazine, issue 111… so it has been a hugely unique and successful piece, and it is definitely a personal favourite of mine.

Black Cockatoos and Stenocarpus was sold into a private collection before I began, and is the largest Australian bird painting Ive ever undertaken. The level of intricacy and complexity involved in producing this painting requiring an estimated 1,500-2,000 hours to complete. It is a spectacular piece, large and commanding, so energy rich and bold in content. Black Cockatoos and Stenocarpus has been featured in high profile publications such as Australian Geographic Magazine, and has just been published in the current International Artist Magazine, issue 111

Sulphur Crested Cockatoos and Silky Oak is the most recent of the three. Always seeking to refine and improve my technical abilities for my work, this Australian bird painting was created simply to push the boundaries of my own skill and perseverance. It is a technical challenge on many levels, most of all mentally and emotionally. This is a highly personal piece produced just to see if I could achieve it and although it certainly did push my boundaries on perseverance, I genuinely enjoyed the journey of this unique painting right to the end. Sulphur Crested Cockatoos is the feature painting in my article in the current International Artist Magazine, issue 111.

Of these three major works, two captured the attention of the good people at Art Images Gallery in South Australia in particular. Art Images Gallery specialise in high quality print production and custom framing of elite art. I have been working with them in recent months to produce Sulphur Crested Cockatoos and Black Cockatoos and Stenocarpus into a pair of beautiful Australian bird prints for you. Measuring approximately 800mm wide x 1250 high in size, each is hand signed, numbered and limited to just 50 prints each on fine rag paper.
