LITTLE Kingfisher and Waterlilies – Painting in Watercolour – SOLD
Little Kingfisher and Waterlilies is the latest addition to my 15×15 cm series of watercolour paintings, capturing a moment in time by the waters edge. Sold ahead of time, my client settled on the Little Kingfisher as a subject, but really left the story up to me aside from that. I settled on a delicate yet bold pond life scene and setting, loving the combination for so many reasons. Its such fun working together to create something so beautiful. For me its a fabulous focus to sink my creative teeth into, for them, a wonderful thing to be such a part of the process – before watching it unfold, knowing its theirs.
This client started at one piece from this series, and like many, continues to add to her own collection as she imagines new, often sentimental and meaningfulΒ combinations. These are exquisite studies of subject and medium, and as Ive said many times before, each is indeed a love affair. Pond life brings SO much to the table, and for me, with my immense love for bird illustration and botanical painting, its a dream focus.
With the subjects decided, I began this piece with the kingfisher, then the lotus seed capsule as his resting perch. And, although my final version is not for copying, I have also created deep dive online painting lessons of both subjects to teach you all about this craft and the magic of realistic watercolour. Its a journey shared!
The fabulous colours and textures really grabbed me in this combination of subjects, both for myself and for the online painting lessons. This being the third Kingfisher lesson on offer, each with their own uniqueness and challenges, both the Kingfisher and the Lotus in this study allow us to push our techniques and practice so much further. You can jump in now to the Azure Kingfisher or the Sacred Kingfisher lesson as a perfect place to start, exploring these gorgeous birds in realistic watercolour. The Little Kingfisher will be live on the 8th of May, so you have some perfect time to enjoy those first.
As pictured, those lessons will be live in the coming months, but my Patreon Channel has lots to see on my works and plenty to learn in my online watercolor painting tutorials too, so if youd love to learn for yourself, wed certainly love to have you on board.
So this sweetie, the third in my recent kingfisher series, is off to its lovely new home now, and Im so thrilled to add this beautiful painting to the long list of works in this collection. I absolutely loved falling into this commission and Ill be back with the next, coming up very soon. If youd like to discuss your own commission in this, or any other series, please let me know. If youd like to join me for an In-Person painting workshop, why not check out my workshop calendar. Perhaps Ill see you along the way.
