Kicking off a whole new year, were not just celebrating the start of a new calendar year, we are also celebrating a huge and wonderful milestone for our monthly painting lessons over on my PATREON CHANNEL, and it feels like a really positive achievement. Yep, our Red-Eyed Tree Frog painting tutorial marks the start of our second whole year together, and I am really looking forward to growing it more with you all in 2025. I must say with all the practice making the tutorials, I am learning new skills and improving a lot too!
Since launching my Channel, I have managed to do the almost impossible, single handedly sharing a brand new painting lesson for your continued learning every month. It sure is a big focus for me at the minute, but with so many joining me to learn more about realistic watercolour painting, bird and botanical painting, it has been a really tremendous start to my Patreon teaching goals. Covering birds, botanicals, and a deep dive into a wider range of natural history illustration subjects typical of my own specialty and work, theres plenty on offer. Best of all, theres more to come! This month sees us step into something completely new together, exploring this exciting Red-Eyed Tree Frog in watercolour, and I am confident youll love it just as much as I have.
Its a special one. My very good friend in Brazil, Kelen Soares, captured this magical little creature on his adventures and was only too happy to let us work from it. Needless to say, I was in love at first sight and totally stoked to have such a wonderful subject to explore as a lesson. It comes with so many little tricks and challenges to learn about, and its small size makes it a perfect fun sized painting exercise. Its incredible eye is a lesson in itself once again… and its outrageous mix of colours teaches us so much more about relationships of colour and its use, along with simple approaches to achieve excellent results. And of course, its just a beautiful and fun filled subject to paint in general!
