SO whats on the table for next months painting lesson together?
As many of you already know, I share an in depth painting lesson in watercolour every month over on our PATREON COMMUNITY, based around a new and unique illustration subject. On July 8, we get a whole new painting lesson and subject to explore, and I loved this one from the moment I laid eyes on it. My friend Ade Hall caught a series of gorgeous Crimson Sunbird images that were just completely captivating in colour, form, texture and beauty to me, so you can imaging how grateful I was when he gave permission to create this painting tutorial for you all, with the Crimson Sunbird our inspiration for July… We are blessed!

CRIMSON SUNBIRD – Paint Realistic Watercolour and BIRDS is a wonderful offering in my bird painting tutorials. When I saw this stunning sunbird, I was captivated immediately. My long time friend and photographer Ade Hall generously offered us the use of his image to paint and learn from here (and here only) which was such a wonderful opportunity for me to create this course, and for all of us all to jump in, explore such a remarkably beautiful subject, and get learning all about this bird, the medium and the lessons it brings us.
The Crimson Sunbird is all about colour and texture once again, and I mean, isnt that what bird illustration and painting is all about? This vibrant bird brings us an exciting exercise in dramatic, intense reds, accentuated by its rich blacks and punctuations of fabulous purple. This sunbird portrait is not only beautiful, it is a wonderful, manageable painting challenge, so ideal to teach you more about my techniques, watercolour painting and realistic bird illustration, expanding on our learning even more. Its an ideal painting exercise to grow your knowledge, and confidence, whilst having fun with this beautiful new, intensely coloured subject.
This course is for everyone, new to experienced, so if you love the subject and want to get playing with some gorgeous, intense colour, tone and texture, this is the course for you! I will be walking you through every step of the way, explaining the processes, colours and painting techniques to give you a fantastic, successful outcome. Here we find a perfect opportunity to learn about pigment rich wash, creating intense colours through layering, developing texture with broad dry brushing approaches, about working in your red colour family line, materials, painting techniques, timing, managing your palette and ultimately, creating a beautiful sunbird painting for yourself.
An exacting craft, this work is especially suited to nature lovers, for those with an eye for detail, or for those wanting to develop it. If thats you, youre definitely in the right place.
