Common Heath Botanical Illustration ~ Australian Geographic Magazine Issue 130 – SOLD
This A4 watercolour painting is the last in a series of 8 paintings featured in the January/February issues Nature Watch section of the Australian Geographic Magazine publication. The illustrations depict our beautiful, diverse Australian Floral Emblems, one for each state. The gorgeous Common Heath is the state flower for Victoria.
Did you know, in the mid 1950’s a body of government representatives came together with other people in of power, and they agreed that the pink form of the common heath as Ive illustrated here should be adopted as the official floral emblem for the state of Victoria? Victoria was actually the first Australian state to adopt a floral emblem, and what a great choice they made.
As a botanical artist, the Heath is definitely amongst my very favourite subjects to illustrate, so this brief was very much my pleasure! Someday id like to explore this subject and all its remarkable diversities further.
Common Heath (Epacris impress) is available for purchase. This botanical illustration is also available in a range of beautiful, affordable gifts as well. Just follow the link on my shop tab to see whats available, or let me know if you have any enquiries.
