‘Mistletoebird and Alloxylon flammeum’
My most recent painting brings a bold new addition to my 15 x 15cm miniatures series, one of my favourite collections! ‘Mistletoebird and Alloxylon flammeum’ is a bold bird painting in watercolour, despite its smaller size. To me these are ideal pieces, studies of subjects i adore, perfecting my craft to the most intricate degree I can. They, (like all of them really!) are love affairs captured on paper.
The mistletoebird is such a dynamic, aesthetically exciting subject, but ive never had a chance to capture one! Now is the time and I have loved exploring the mistletoebird for this painting. To compliment it, I have chosen Alloxylon flammeum or the Tree Waratah, one of my all time favourite trees, flowers, colour mix and subjects. Together they make a wonderful, uniquely Australian combination.
