Finishing our butterfly #painting brought us to the end of this week's #watercolourworkshop here on the Gold Coast, where we've learned about a full cross section of realistic #watercolor rendering techniques. We are far more prepared and able to continue on creating paintings of our own now, with the direction, confidence and steadiness needed. Working on our next #painting challenge, we're refining our techniques and balances beyond what my students even realise now, capturing the intricacies of this #butterflyillustration in ways not so possible just a few days ago. It's a gorgeous subject, our focus rewarded with such improvement in the outcomes. As I break the incredible 21,000 student milestone this morning, on my last teaching day here on the Gold Coast and my last event for the year, I am feeling especially proud of myself and my students and full of gratitude for you all. I'm off to finish our butterfly illustrations and this event today with high spirits and I hope you have a great, creative day too.

This morning I just want to share this incredible milestone with you. It's a proud moment to wake to this message this morning, especially as I am away teaching as my student numbers broke the 21,000 mark online.

It's not something i ever set out to achieve, and i realise many of you havent realised i teach either... but i do! Teaching has been a really organic emergence, born out of my appreciation for knowledge sharing, helping others along their creative way, and quite simply, to share my deep love of my craft and my own achievements with you all. Its a beautiful thing that has grown from the best origins and purposes and I feel really proud of myself and so very proud of my students too. My group now reminds me why I keep returning to it, why I love it, why I give it my focus and what a 2 way path of growth it is. So thank you everyone for being on this journey with me 🥰

This week's #painting #workshop on the Gold Coast

This week's #painting #workshop on the Gold Coast is underway with such a lovely bunch of willing students, and we've sure learned a lot already and have come so far. Our mango study taught us so much about having fun with colour, layering, wash and glazing techniques and beyond in the botanical element of the lesson. Now we're coming to the end of our small bird #illustration for a completely different practice and balance, diving into textural dry brushing... were covering all bases with more to come! I'm sure my girls slept well last night and will be ready for the new day today. It's really incredible seeing the development over these workshops and an honour to work with such great people 🥰 Today's reel is a little insight into what we've been working on so far 🙏

Last week's #paintingretreat explored sooo many #watercolourpainting techniques, and our nesting bird was a great opportunity to experience a broad scope of approaches. There's lots to learn, but it was nice playing with this sweet subject and the medium together. Texture, timing, different applications, it has it all. I didnt get mine quite finished, but todays reel shares the emergence of my study.

'Wisteria and Wattlebirds' is a #watercolour study

'Wisteria and Wattlebirds' is a #watercolour study i still love to this day, a whole 13 years on! I cant believe how the time passed by so fast, but its nice to get these little reminders of how my time has been spent. Measuring 300x465mm/12x18inches in size, I think that #wisteria remains one of the hardest flowers to paint well. For a time there I created many Wisteria paintings until I found just the right balance of that divine colour... and isn't it just divine! This weekend I saw the very first Wisteria coming into bloom here at home and was instantlyin love again. With spring officially here, it's a beautiful memory and piece to share with you today 💜

It's a busy week here in the studio, preparing for my up coming #painting retreat and workshop, creating a beautiful new springtime painting lesson for you over on Patreon of course, and a little commission for a client I shared some of in my Broadcast Channel, but I've also been coming and going from my little #wrenpainting wherever possible. The background is slowly coming to life now with the addition of some fresh greens filling up the white nicely, and I have a short clip of the progress for you this morning. There's still a bit to do of course, but it just goes to show you how much even small but consistent efforts add up to something really worthwhile. Putting the stems in changes everything. Suddenly we have structure and clarity to the sea of purple, and it transforms into something far clearer and lively. It's also a lovely colour change to explore. Although is is indeed a fiddly stage, its such fun to see it coming together in the process. There's still a ways to go here, but its closer to completion by the brush stroke, and I'm continuing to enjoy it unfolding. Thanks for following 🙏

Its so nice popping in and out of this delicate purple confetti flower #painting between projects here in my studio at the minute. It's a soothing study capturing my excitement of seeing the first spring flowers erupting around my home. Landscapes awash with the brilliant yellow and purples of the wattle and #sarsparilla make you feel alive again 💜 My little #wren is slowly but surely surrounded by this sea of delicate purple flowers, in this sweet spring time story.

I still have a way to go with this intricate mass of mauve flowers, but its coming along nicely now so thought I'd stop in with a little update and hello to you all 🙏 for following 🥰
