Bringing this simple cluster of #gumleaves to life

Bringing this simple cluster of #gumleaves to life in #watercolour the goal for this little #botanicalillustration was to create a beautiful, understated #painting of these #eucalyptus leaves as a secondary element to a greater composition. It's all about gentle fullness, flow, and gorgeous colour, so I really got to exaggerate and enjoy the diversity and combination of colours in this study which was a lot of fun. The addition of some beautifully simplified leaves

The addition of some beautifully simplified leaves bring this #painting to a close now too. The leaves have some important application considerations for this study, creating a subtle fullness to the background in its final product placement. I've relied on the romance and softness of the #watercolour medium to convey much of this delicate story, which it does so well. With a wonderful mix and balance of colour play here, we weave multiple elements together in beautiful combinations whilst enjoying this softening in my usual rendering style.

My second waratah painting is complete, with a gor

My second waratah painting is complete, with a gorgeous balance of colour for this study, making it both unique and cohesive with the rest of the series. The leaves have a significant softening to the detailing too. This meets my clients needs on several design levels, but the rendering remains just as refined in its softening. It's a lovely mix of representing the subject well, creating this series with a collective cohesion, along with the specific design requirements and considerations of the greater project. I hope you've enjoyed this painting coming together 🙏

Another beautiful #painting subject is on the table at the minute, a #waratah #illustration with a soft orange tinge in its balance, which has actually been a gorgeous palette to explore. A subject I know so well and have painted many many times, this new balance of colour has been a fun little shift. Combined with the previous waratah study, we create a wonderful harmony, diversity and uniqueness to the series all at once.

Custom #illustration comes with plenty of unique needs and considerations. This can be anything and everything from subject, elements and relevant combinations, the inclusion of other elements such as typography and logos, working with corporate or product colours, placement, styling, designing for effectiveness across various applications, considerations of size, deadlines, budgets and of course, a clients personal vision and taste too. many things.

As artists, we are often reluctant about this. We tend to hate stepping outside of our own vision, but for me, I absolutely love it. I love bringing another's vision and dream to life, expanding outside of my own box with my well equipped capabilities to play my critical part of its success. Seeing a project through from idea to the finish product is a thrill and honour, and most of all, there is so much creative growth in these opportunities.

Todays #waratah #painting is all of those things and challenges. It's a beautiful study in itself, but it meets so many kinds of unique criteria for my clients as well. It is now rebirthed into something completely new and different from its origins, ready for its new role. I am so looking forward to seeing this in its ultimate place! Thanks for following along 🙏

My current painting focus shifts back to one of my favourite subjects in with this #waratah #illustration the heart of the flower emerging nicely one tiny section at a time. Watching it stack in repetition like this is so mesmerising, i think... There's plenty more to go on this one today, but I'm loving the colour play with this study so much again. This week I've been working on a fantastic new secret project for a client I can't mention yet, but I wanted to share some tiiiiny sections of the very early stages of the rendering of this #illustration series because it's just such gorgeous colour! I'm so enjoying this challenge, exploring a little softening in my illustration style to meet my clients needs, and generally adoring the colour play and medium.

Such a lovely group, place and this #azurekingfisher is proving to be a truly fantastic subject and lesson as we learn all about #watercolourpainting and #birdillustration together. Coming to the end of our first study, we've looked at materials, processes, painting techniques, colour, layering, tone, timing and texture as we bring each #kingfisherpainting to life ✨️Lucky us getting a whole new and full creative day ahead once more to continue our learning and play together 🌞

I know it's late... but we've had a big and beauti

I know it's late... but we've had a big and beautiful day here on the Gold Coast, kicking off an awesome week exploring #kingfisherpainting in #watercolour and I wanted to share the first stages of our progress before i rest... What gorgeous subjects these Kingfishers are and what an incredibly popular series of #workshops this has been too! From Melbourne to the Gold Coast and next ill be bringing the learning to the Sunshine Coast, so let us know if you'd like to join the next, bookings are filling fast!

We've had the best time playing with this exceptionally beautiful #birdpainting subject already, learning about materials (and my own brushes!) work processes, and realistic #watercolor #painting techniques, and with 4 more days of learning remaining, we have so much more to soak up 🥰 Certainly we've paved some brilliant roads forward today. Tomorrow we will jump straight into our paintings and continue our learning journeys, bringing our Kingfishers to life.
