Welcome to this month’s painting lesson! I feel completely uplifted looking at our latest subject… So small, fluffy, vibrant and full of personality, the ROSE ROBIN is sure to strike a chord with us all. It certainly does for me. After sharing this beautiful little bird at a recent face to face painting retreat and seeing the incredible response as clips reached hundreds of thousands of people, I knew it needed a permanent place in my online painting tutorial collection. So here it is, our ROSE ROBIN painting lesson, ready for you to deep dive into as a full, in-depth painting lesson.
This is a wonderful learning opportunity and a beautiful exercise in realistic bird painting, exploring that almost unbelievable pink chest and gentle expression in watercolour, to create a painting of your own. And believe it or not, we use just three colours (with a fourth optional), allowing us to set aside anxieties around colour complexity and instead focus on improving technique, while still achieving remarkable richness and complexity in our work.
