Welcome to this month’s elegant online painting lesson, and a warm welcome back to everyone joining me once again in our Paint Realistic Watercolour and Nature Tutorials where we deep dive into a brand new subject and realistic watercolor painting challenge each month. Each lesson, bringing us a whole new opportunity for fun, exploration and learning in this gorgeous medium and genre. I’m delighted to introduce a truly striking botanical subject for this month, as we deep dive into the Dutch Iris as our focus together.
Renowned for its dramatic form and rich colour, the Iris offers us a wonderful opportunity to explore intensity, grace and structure in watercolour. In this lesson, we’ll work step by step to capture its flowing petals, luminous blues and purples, and unmistakable presence, building a painting full of life, depth and refinement.
This tutorial is all about layering with intention, practicing our application and glazing techniques, learning how to build substance, luster and complexity in your paintings through a clear, manageable process. As always, I’ll be there with you from beginning to end, guiding you carefully through each stage of the painting… so lets take a look at our Dutch Iris painting exercise and jump in.
