Inspired by my recent South American adventures, we're exploring the #hyacinthmacaw for this months Patreon Painting Lesson, and it has proven to be a wonderful exercise in #birdpainting and #realisticwatercolour 💙 Its a lesson full of learning, working in large washes, layers and manageable colour play to create this beautiful #macaw portrait.

Finishing our butterfly #painting brought us to the end of this week's #watercolourworkshop here on the Gold Coast, where we've learned about a full cross section of realistic #watercolor rendering techniques. We are far more prepared and able to continue on creating paintings of our own now, with the direction, confidence and steadiness needed. Working on our next #painting challenge, we're refining our techniques and balances beyond what my students even realise now, capturing the intricacies of this #butterflyillustration in ways not so possible just a few days ago. It's a gorgeous subject, our focus rewarded with such improvement in the outcomes. As I break the incredible 21,000 student milestone this morning, on my last teaching day here on the Gold Coast and my last event for the year, I am feeling especially proud of myself and my students and full of gratitude for you all. I'm off to finish our butterfly illustrations and this event today with high spirits and I hope you have a great, creative day too.

This morning I just want to share this incredible milestone with you. It's a proud moment to wake to this message this morning, especially as I am away teaching as my student numbers broke the 21,000 mark online.

It's not something i ever set out to achieve, and i realise many of you havent realised i teach either... but i do! Teaching has been a really organic emergence, born out of my appreciation for knowledge sharing, helping others along their creative way, and quite simply, to share my deep love of my craft and my own achievements with you all. Its a beautiful thing that has grown from the best origins and purposes and I feel really proud of myself and so very proud of my students too. My group now reminds me why I keep returning to it, why I love it, why I give it my focus and what a 2 way path of growth it is. So thank you everyone for being on this journey with me 🥰

This week's #painting #workshop on the Gold Coast

This week's #painting #workshop on the Gold Coast is underway with such a lovely bunch of willing students, and we've sure learned a lot already and have come so far. Our mango study taught us so much about having fun with colour, layering, wash and glazing techniques and beyond in the botanical element of the lesson. Now we're coming to the end of our small bird #illustration for a completely different practice and balance, diving into textural dry brushing... were covering all bases with more to come! I'm sure my girls slept well last night and will be ready for the new day today. It's really incredible seeing the development over these workshops and an honour to work with such great people 🥰 Today's reel is a little insight into what we've been working on so far 🙏

There's lots to learn, but it was nice playing with this sweet subject and the medium together. Texture, timing, different applications, it has it all. I didnt get mine quite finished, but todays reel shares the emergence of my study.
