‘Pretty Little Wren’ – My New Ashdene Collection is live!!
Good morning, everyone!
I’m thrilled to share a little behind-the-scenes look at one of my favourite projects with Ashdene, one of Australia’s leading homewares companies. Over the years, I’ve collaborated with Ashdene on a number of ranges, and this latest release features my 15 x 15 cm small bird studies in watercolour, of our beloved Australian wrens. Ashdene selected seven of my paintings for this project, six of which were combined into a connected landscape image for wrap around designs and merchandising. They also included the charming little Jenny Wren with the Lotus, bringing my studio work into a beautifully curated commercial collection.
Seeing your artwork transition from a fine art study into a variety of products is always exciting. From ceramics and glass to metal and paper, the design team works carefully to ensure each image adapts perfectly across different applications. This process highlights one of the key challenges of commercial illustration: translating delicate, hand-painted artworks into such a wide range of functional, everyday items.
This collection represents the first phase of release, and it’s been so rewarding to witness my original bird studies come to life in new ways. From studio sketches to finished products, it’s fascinating to see how a personal art practice can inspire designs that are shared in homes across the country.
I hope this little insight into the project gives you a peek behind the curtain of how artwork evolves from personal creation to commercial application. It’s always such a joy to see original inspirations take flight in new forms!
If youd like to see more, you can watch a short clip on this over on my Patreon Channel, or view the range here in any case… Perhaps its a great Christmas or gift idea for you too, with the holiday season ahead. Enjoy 🙏🏻
