Sacred Lotus – Nelumbo nucifera Botanical Study

Sacred Lotus – Nelumbo nucifera Botanical Study

This Sacred Lotus – Nelumbo nucifera botanical study is the result of reference collected whilst on residency in the wetlands of Far North Queensland. Supremely elegant and gorgeous in every way, this is one of my favourite subjects of all time. This painting is rendered in watercolour and measures 22×30 inches in size. A snapshot of the progression of this piece is here for your interest, but join me on my Facebook Page for a closer look at this, and many others unfolding.

My Sacred Lotus was selected as a finalist in the prestigious Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize and has subsequently been awarded a Highly Commended prize in the Works On Paper section. ‘As one of the best artworks in this years competition’ Sacred Lotus now joins the touring exhibition where it is on show at the National Archives of Australia in Canberra from 26 September until 9 November 2014. My Sacred Lotus botanical painting image was also selected and used for the promotion of the exhibition, a wonderful honour and acknowledgement of my work!
