Norfolk Island Painting Workshop ~ Norfolk Island ~ LAST PLACES BOOKING NOW!!

How does joining me to paint for an entire week on the gorgeous Norfolk Island sound for an amazing experience? How can you not find inspiration in such a gorgeous location as Norfolk Island!!

In November 2017 (plenty of time to plan) I will be holding a weeks watercolour painting workshop based around the Natural History of the Island. With a mixture of enjoying the outdoors and working in the comfort of a studio setting, this painting workshop allows us time to settle in, to unwind and enjoy the relaxing island setting, and to hone your painting skills while were at it… and I bet they have wine too 😀 I think it sounds pretty hard to beat myself.

There are so many reasons to consider a holiday to Norfolk Island situated a short two hour flight from Sydney or Brisbane and mid-way between Australia and New Zealand. The beauty of the Island is infamous with its tall majestic pines, high rising cliffs, green undulating valleys, lush rainforest and brilliant turquoise waters over coral reefs. So many arriving visitors are simply astounded by the beauty they find providing countless photographic opportunities. The island has long been a source of inspiration to painters and artists, so maybe this is just the remedy you’ve been looking for.

Correspondence Exerts ~ ‘Norfolk painting trips led by esteemed visiting artists is an idea of Barb Kelly’s, a resident and artist who has returned to live after 40 years on the mainland. Barb wanted to “showcase” the island to artists, and other interested people who wished to paint and sketch from some of the most dramatic and beautiful scenery in the world. She hopes that this opportunity will promote an exchange of creativity, artistic expression and comraderie between the visitors and people who live on the island. Norfolk Island Travel Centre is a local business owned by Rebecca Christian her team specialises in bringing visitors to the island including special interest travel, events, group travel or independent travel for any time of year

Artistic inspiration is in no short supply on Norfolk Island. Evocative convict buildings, high rising cliffs, dramatic seascapes, green undulating valleys, lush rainforest and brilliant turquoise waters arouse the senses and have created a rich artistic island life. Local artists also draw on a cultural heritage derived from their Polynesian foremothers, being descendants of the Tahitian women and mutineers of mutiny on the ‘Bounty’ fame.

There are several galleries on the island one of which, Gallery Guava provides entry to Fletcher’s Mutiny Cyclorama. This stunning work created by artists Tracey Yager and Sue Draper is a ‘painting in the round’ depicting the entire Bounty story. Elsewhere, stalls at the Sunday market attest to locally made weaving, jewellery, ceramic and photographic works and the Island’s Community Arts Society will be taking a delegation of dancers, painters and weavers to the upcoming Festival of Pacific Arts in Guam later this year. This is an island that embraces artists and their creative pursuits and that message is beginning to be more fully appreciated by visiting artists.

For painting, Norfolk Island is hard to beat. In addition to offering a diverse array of inspiring vistas all located within a short 10 minute drive from each other, the Island is uncongested and peaceful. Painting here is in a place that allows quiet contemplation of the surrounds aided by the invigoration of the Island’s utterly fresh air. While the beauty of Norfolk is well-known, it’s the easy pace, fascinating history and culture, and welcoming locals and that make it the ideal painting holiday destination. And a local experience is genuinely available during these painting trips. Every trip is accompanied by a local artist who personally introduces participants to the best painting locations around the island offering a real opportunity for an exchange of creativity, artistic expression and camaraderie with the locals.

For those looking to join their first painting holiday Norfolk Island is a perfect not-too-far-away ‘international’ destination, which also importantly meets the entertainment needs of accompanying non-painting spouses and family.
